Satan, Demon Prince of Wrath[]

Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. - 1 Peter 5:8[]

Satan (Hebrew: שָּׂטָן satan, meaning "adversary";[1] Arabic: شيطان shaitan, meaning; "astray", "distant", or sometimes "devil") is perhaps the most well known Demon Prince, and perhaps the most well known Devil of all.

Though known by many names and many more titles, the name Satan is easily the best known and most used by the Demon Lord who presides over the Sin of Wrath. Usually masculine in appearance and personality, Satan will be referred to as a he for the sake of simplicity and readability. He is characterized largely by opposition, especially to the established order. Originally, he served as a sort of devil's advocate to the God of Abraham. Gradually, as time passed and mortal perceptions changed, he became the entity currently roosting in the pit of Gehenna. Confusingly, he was always the same as he is now, and before that, he was a part of Lucifer.

As mentioned above, Satan is known by many names. A consequence of this is that he is frequently conflated with other Demon Princes; most frequently Beelzebub, Lucifer, Asmodeus, and Mephistopheles.

As Satan is the Prince of Wrath, his opposite in the Angelic Choirs is the Archangel Michael, Archangel of Patience.

Personality[]

Satan, known in his human form as Olaf, is a foul-tempered, caustic, violent wretch. Equal parts misanthropy and self-loathing cause him to attempt to either infuriate or mutilate anyone or anything he encounters. In spite of his general willing stupidity, he is possessed of a keen intellect, wide vocabulary, and vast repertoire of insults.

Oddly enough, Satan does not believe that the God of Abraham exists in any meaningful way, and that the entire faith is founded on a lie perpetuated by Metatron. Naturally, this brings him into conflict with Angels even more than being a ruler of Hell already does. He has particular distaste for Angels of Patience, especially Michael; believing them all to be passive, simpering fools.
